Current and Target

Koch level The Koch method has a specific sequence in which letters are learned. Here you can pick the one according to the setting.

Words per minute The speed of the individual letters. The speed is universally given as the number of times the word „PARIS“ can be sent using that speed. E.g. 12 WPM means that using that speed, you can send „PARIS“ 12 times in a minute.

Words per minute (effective) This is a setting from the Farnsworth method. The idea is to introduce short pauses between individual letters so the learner isn’t that much overwhelmed. A speed of 10 here means that even though the individual letters are sent at the „normal“ speed, breaks are inserted so that effectively (hence the name) you can only send the word „PARIS“ 10 times in a minute.

Maximal word length The letters are either sent in actual words or in groups of letters that resemble random words. The shorter the words, the more breaks you get between words and, thus, the easier it is to copy. This setting allows you to set how long the words are allowed to get at most.

QSB QSB is the annoying phenomenon that you tune to a station and you can copy them greatly and then, after a short time, the signal fades away, getting very low, only to come back after a few more moments. This is QSB and this setting allows you to simulate it so you are used to it once you get on the air.

QRM This is a setting for the noise floor of the signals. 1 means there is no noise, and the higher the value the more noise will be there.

QRN This is a setting for simulating spherics. The higher, the more spherics you get. Setting QSB, QRM and QRN high makes you feel like you are actually on the air in a huge conurbation with a tiny antenna in an appartment complex. Just like home! 🙂

Session length How long the session will be. 60 seconds are considered nice, 30 is for people with short attention spans (kids) and longer sessions are for when you feel like to have too much energy.

Pre-session pause This is some lead time before actual letters are sent to allow you to grab your pen, position your paper and get ready to copy.

Show handwriting guide This turns the handwriting guide on or off that you can see in the Copy training’s „learn a new letter“ screen.
